Marginalia

Volume Three

Decorated cover of notebook labelled "Volume 3".

I filled this little notebook in 2009.  I remember wanting to make this one an “art book” that was more consciously ornamental, though I didn’t quite see that through. Inside it has fieldnotes from my MA thesis research, interspersed with personal writing and sketches of artifacts in the Chicago Oriental Institute and Acropolis Museum.

The drawing on the cover began small and was expanded over the course of the year. Like volumes one and two in this “series”, the notebook is small enough to fit in a pocket (around A6 size). But since then I’ve tended to prefer A5 notebooks and I’ve stopped labelling them in sequence.

This is part of my weekly Marginalia series, explained here.
