Lately I’m finding that curiosity is useful.
When stuck on a project, I try to find where it makes me curious. Following that curiosity is a way to dive back in.
Turned inwards: What are you curious about right now? Why does it make you curious? Why does that matter? Being curious about my own curiosity helps highlight the needs buried under layers of mental obfuscation.
At parties: It’s fun to ask people what they’re curious about. I’ve never liked “What do you do?” at introductions; one’s job doesn’t necessarily reflect the things that matter to someone, and asking “What matters to you?” feels like a strange thing to ask someone you’ve just met. But I’m yet to find someone who isn’t curious about something – and it’s generally an engaging thing to talk about.
